Haig Housing’s PWA
A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a hybrid between a website and an app. Our PWA combines the availability of our website, with some of the useful features a mobile app would offer.
You can install our app on any mobile device which supports the technology. It’s quite a new technology so your phone may not be able to take advantage of the PWA. That does not mean you miss out on any part of our website as you can still access all parts of the website through your browser.
To install our PWA please follow these steps:
Android:
When you first open the website in Google Chrome on your Android phone you will most likely be prompted to install the website. You should see a bar similar to the bar shown below. Simply click on that and the PWA will start to install.
If you do not see the bar at the bottom of your screen then you can press the three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen. This will open a menu, click on “Install app” or “Add to Home Screen” and the PWA will begin to install.
iPhone
- Open the website in Safari on your iPhone.
- Click on the Share button at the bottom of the screen. This will bring up a menu.
- Click “Add to Home Screen”
Once the PWA is installed you will see the Haig Housing icon appear on your phone. You can click this icon at any time to visit our website.
PWA only functionality
Once you have the PWA installed, any page you visit will be saved to your phone. You can then come back to the website when you are not connected to the Internet and see those saved pages. Any page which is not saved will not be visible when you are not connected to the Internet, in this case the website will show you a message to let you know you will be able to view the page when you are back online.
